What Is the Difference Between an Official and an Unofficial Transcript?

Official transcripts are provided in a sealed envelope with the registrar’s signature stamped across the seal. Paper copies should remain in the unopened, sealed envelope until it is presented to the employer, institution, organization, or other recipient of your choice. Electronic transcripts are considered official if delivered securely through an organization authorized by Nevada State University. Official transcripts are usually charged with a fee to have it printed and sent out.

Transcripts that have been in the hands of the student such as electronic student copy or unofficial transcripts are not considered official. Unofficial transcripts are printed on plain paper and do not have a college seal or registrar’s signature. Unofficial transcripts do not require a fee to have it viewed or sent to the recipient of your choice.
